Slip Sliding Away

Yesterday we went cross country skiing.  It was snowing lightly and truly lovely outside.  It's always worth the effort it takes to get out the first time although, truth be told, the Herons were remarkably efficient.

I'm always amazed at how willing the students are to try this sport, many of them for the first time.  They laugh as they fall down, excitedly experiment (and often fail).  Who knew that a snow drift could serve as a make shift down hill ski slope.  It's so different than the way I approached learning the sport, just a few tears ago.  "This is so much worse than walking!" I declared as I took off my skis and stomped home down the trail.

Luckily, I kept at it.  I still remember the first time I went on groomed trails.  It was at Wolf Ridge and, as I slipped almost silently through the giant pine trees, I finally got it.

We took pictures with our new Flip!  Thanks to J.C-H. who didn't have boots (we have a lot of size 39 feet in the Herons, evidently — we welcome any Salomon SLN binding boots you might have) but cheerfully took pictures and videos for us.
