Today dawned bright and beautiful for the Herons' last full day at Wolf
Ridge. Our group was split today so that we could do both
Cross-country Skiing and Frozen Lake Study. I went with the group that
skied in the morning, so I cross-country skied for the first time in my
life today. I made it around one of the 2 looped trails, with a lot of
support from MR and TR, and we had some great skiing and great
views along the way.

For the afternoon we joined the Robins in Frozen Lake Study – examining the lake under the ice for temperature, depth, and fish. We tried some fishing and TR caught a perch. There was much screaming and excitement before she and IS carefully put it back into the lake.
Everyone got a chance to do some ice sawing as well, and the teamwork it took to get that chunk of ice out of the lake and onto the ground, without anyone falling in, was impressive.
Some students rounded out the evening with owl pellets, while others went rock climbing. And we still have the campfire to look forward to tonight. Everyone is sad to be leaving but excited to get back home! -ET
