The Rookery

 We began our art residency work with Malcolm Potek today.  The Herons loved the   abstract drawing they created by following some simple instructions meant to give us a common vocabulary of lines and shapes.  We then created a simple bird drawing to put in our new sketch books.  After Malcolm left, we used our sketchbooks to draw our objects of the week.  I introduced the idea of blind contour drawing which greatly amused the students.

We meet with Malcolm again on Friday when we'll begin to sketch some herons and begin planning our glass pieces.  He's really wonderful with the students — they gave him a round of applause as he left. You can check out his work at Potek Glass.
