I shouldn't have been surprised when the fifth graders begged to be able to explore the electricity activities that the fourth graders were working on last week. We were making simple circuit boards, the basic building block of a computer, with aluminum foil, masking tape and Christmas lights. "Please, can I make one, too?!" came a chorus of voices when I added "circuit boards" to our open work menu.
The fourth graders were thrilled to explain how everything worked and I was heartened to see how much the fifth graders remembered from their electricity work last year. It was one of the times when our multi-age classroom was flipped and the fourth graders got to lead the fifth graders.
(Our party line phone, by the way is up to four phones.)
