I just read an article on Northfield Patch about the very significant cuts that the Northfield Public Schools will be facing next year.  The first paragraph mentions cutting elementary band, a program which has been a favorite of Prairie Creek fifth graders for years.  (There's a public hearing at 7pm on March 16 at the High School auditorium).

Prairie Creek has not had to make cuts that impact the daily lives of our students.  Even in the face of a 30% hold back of state funds last year, we managed to maintain our curricular program through very careful spending and staff sacrifices.

We remain committed to small classes, the arts and a challenging, individualized curriculum.  But we need your help.  Successful fundraising is essential for us to provide our program — not the "bells and whistles," mind you, but the core operating budget.  The depth and the scope of the cuts that face Northfield are a sobering reminder of the very hard choices we will have to make if we do not meet (and exceed) our fundraising goals.

Have you bought your tickets to the auction?  Have you made your donations?  Have you signed up to volunteer?  Have you bought (and sold) your raffle tickets for the iPad 2? Prairie Creek and the Herons need you.
