Two Wednesdays ago, we ended our study of the Industrial Revolution by sharing a little of what we'd learned with the rest of the school. In this theme, in particular, it's fair to say that the culminating event was really the tip of the iceberg in terms of our learning. I was very pleased as I listened to each child talk about his or her subject, answering questions with sophistication and confidence. What pleased me even more was knowing from our conversations and their writing that the students' knew about far more than the topic they were teahcing about. In many cases, students could have rotated around the room and been equally comfortable sharing information about every exhbit. It was my first time teaching about this time period and it turned out to be far richer than I initially imagined. I know my colleagues will be glad as we move on to our next theme and they can stop hearing me say incessantly, "Hey! That reminds me of something in the Industrial Revolution."
