This week has been a marvel at Prairie Creek. Every time I walked through the school, new art greeted me. This afternoon, coming in from recess, I stopped dead when I saw the pressed metal work Angie had put up while we were outside. She has worked tirelessly to fill the school with art. And what fun it was tonight to make art with so many families.
Whenever I get the chance to watch Angie teach, I am so glad I have her as a colleague. The Herons are learning a lot about artists and concepts. But they're also learning that creating art takes patience. Most of the projects they do require many steps, each layer bringing new depth to their work. I believe they bring Angie's focus on process back to their academic work; they realize that it takes time to learn something. One must build one's understanding one layer at a time.
Many thanks to the fourth and fifth graders filmed tonight's event. It was remarkable.
