Today our Blue Books (finally) arrived and the students were able to number their pages and organize their books.  It's a big day.  One of my favorite parts is hearing the advice the 5th graders have for their 4th grade peers:  "don't write too big…I ran out of room."  "If you get something to glue in…glue it in"  "Glue things in right side up."  "Don't skip pages…you'll run out."  "Put dates on things so you know when you did them."  

The Blue Books are custom designed just for Prairie Creek and the way we learn.  They have blank, lined and graph ruled pages so that students can record many kinds of work.  Blue Books are not meant to be a portfolio of perfect work.  Rather, they represent the process of learning.  Some things will be incomplete.  Other projects will be abandoned.  Sometimes those abandoned projects will be returned to.  Students' reflections are captured here along with their goals.
