Wolf Ridge — Day 1

We had a snowy but safe ride up.  Everything cleared up after Tobie's and then we hit a snow squall right near Two Harbors.  It's beautiful up here.  They got about eight inches of snow in the past day.  It makes it seems like we're the first people to be here this winter.

The Herons attended an energy choices class in the afternoon.  We chose to bake our brownie mix using charcoal instead of a solar oven.  Given the snow it was probably the best bet.  Be prepared to have your home get an energy audit when your child arrives home, "Mom, did you know we could use LED lights and it's, like, no wattage."  (This was a fact that amazed us when we plugged in a string of LED lights to a "Kill-a-watt" meter that measures electrical pull).

In the evening, we mix up into new groups.  I led a night hike down to Wolf Lake.  We practiced owl calls, sat silently in the snow and chomped on some Wint-o-green lifesavers in an ice house.  Again, it's beautiful up here.
