Things continue to go swimingly — well, not "swimingly" — no unfrozen water around.  We had a wonderful time at our class on birds.  The Herons did an especially nice job making discoveries during the lab portion of the class where we analyzed bird parts to
determine the characteristics of a bird.  One of the things I enjoy a lot about Wolf Ridge is how the science is incorporated into the class.  The notion of discovery is central to everything we do here at Wolf Ridge which dovetails (no pun intended) beautifully with the work we do at school.

We had a wonderful naturalist for our Ojibwe snowshoe and the Herons tried their hand at identifying key plants for Ojibwe survival.  Many were surprised at how difficult snowshoes were to maneuver in the brush.  But thank goodness we had them since the snow off the trail is about four feet deep.  We also got to try using flint and steel to make a fire.  Great practice for our winter survival tomorrow.

Here's some video and some images from Christine Wheeling.

Yay! What a crazy busy day; bird luring, fire building, rock climbing!

Love the video updates! My only complaint is that I want longer ones! 🙂
