Happy August!

Welcome!  I hope you take some time to visit other entries to get a feel for the Herons' classroom.  Typically, I use the blog to share stories from the class and help explain the philosophy behind the work we are doing.  I love writing it and it's become an important part of my professional reflection and growth.

Today however, I'm sharing some pretty straight forward logistical information:

There are a few more weeks left of summer but since the letters went out in June, I thought it might be helpful to have a copy of the Heron letters and supply list, as well as the child biography.  You can download it here:   Download Summer_herons_ 2011.

Don't forget the "Nuts and Bolts" meeting for 4/5 parents on Thursday September 1 at 7pm in the 4/5 classrooms.  This is where we will go over classroom logistics such as homework expectations, communication, footwear/clothing, schedule and other informaiton that will make the start of the year go smoothly.

The school picnic is on September 2 from 11:30-2pm.  I hope you all can make it.  Having a lot of friendly "old" families there to welcome our new families really makes a difference.  You can drop off school supplies, the $32 workbook check and child biographies at the picnic, too.  I'll be up in the Herons to welcome everyone back.

Finally, our initial theme work for the year will center on maps and map making.  If your child hasn't already chosen a map to share with the class, please help him or her find one before school begins.  More details are in the summer letter for your child that was in the June packet.
