Today some intrepid gardeners and I finished up the test plots and put them out on the roof. The current question is whether or not we should have Simon water them during July if it doesn't rain much. One of our criteria is that our garden should be able to survive a summer of blistering rooftop heat, very little water and inattention but maybe a little sprinkle now and then is permissible.
We have six test plots:
Plot 1 – megamoist, 2 inch potting soil, deep reservoirs with 2 holes, grid at 5 cm intervals
Plot 2 – Megamoist, 2 inches potting soil, deep reservoirs with 2 holes, grid at 5 cm intervals
Plot 3 – Megamoist, 2 inches potting soil, deep reservoirs with 2 holes, grid at 5cm intervals
Plot 4 – flat, Megamoist, lava rock, pea gravel, 2 inches potting soil, lava rock and pea gravel
Plot 5 – flat, Megamoist, miracle mulch and potting soil combination (2:1)
Plot 6 – Top row – miracle mulch, middle row soil, bottom row pea gravel. Plots on right half have Megamoist, All have 1 drainage hole
